APRIL 2025 - Course Selection for Rising 9th Graders
On April 17th, Director of School Counseling Chausse will work with students in their Social Studies classes to pick classes for their Freshman Year.
The focus of freshman year is completing courses in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies and completing general education requirements. This sets the stage for students taking classes in their 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade years that are focused on personal interests, as well as college and career goals.
8th-grade teachers are in the process of providing recommendations for English, Math, Science, and Social Studies courses. These recommendations are based on grades, classroom performance, and NWEA scores.
Many Freshmen focus on the following General Education requirements in their freshman year:
Technical Skills for Life (with a possible test-out option), Physical Education, Health Education, Information and Communication Technologies, and Arts Education.
For some of these requirements, NRHS offers multiple options. I would encourage Parents and Guardians to review the Program of Studies with their children. Of note is page vii, which has graduation requirements, and course offerings starting on page 16.
If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Director of School Counseling Paula Chausse.
